The onset of depression brings about questions and doubts about myself. Things like: “Am I doing the right thing in my life?” “Are my relationships all they can be?” “Am I really a valuable person?”

Depression can answer these questions in some pretty sad and discouraging ways:

You’re on the wrong track for life, change course now or forever be a failure.

You’re dragging down the people you love, best to leave them behind.

No, you can’t possibly be valuable, not with all your problems.

Anyone who has ever experienced depression knows thoughts like these. Thoughts of worthlessness, of utter despair at the thought of oneself, maybe even disgust or repulsion. Depression can really make the mirror a difficult sight to see.


Every status you have is called into question. Are you a good enough parent? Friend? Sibling? Child? Partner? All of these aspects of life are fair game for depression to leak into and try to poison, and it can be easy to let it. Fighting depression is a monumental task many don’t realize the difficulty of. It’s especially hard when it makes you question your value as a human being, the very foundation of our identity.

Every action I do is brought to scrutiny. Did I make the right decision? Should I have done things differently? What would my life be like if I hadn’t done that? The doubt that comes into play with decisions is also debilitating, as it digs up old feelings of anxiety and pressure over decisions I have to make in life. And all of those things can be used as ammunition to make me feel like I always mess up.

Depression is a fantastic liar. It can tell me all kinds of untrue things about myself — that my life is not worth living and doesn’t have meaning or purpose or value. The truth is none of those things are true. Every life is worthy of its existence, and that includes you. You may be going through some pretty rough stuff. Like, really, really rough stuff — stuff others may not be able to understand. And you may make some mistakes here and there, it’s part of being human. But ultimately nothing can change the fact that you are a valuable person, a beautiful person and strong person to have survived so long through what you’re going through. Don’t let the liar that is depression tell you any differently.

 A Meaning To Live:-

Most people imagine depression equals “really sad,” and unless you’ve experienced depression yourself, you might not know it goes so much deeper than that. Depression expresses itself in many different ways, some more obvious than others. While some people have a hard time getting out of bed, others might get to work just fine — it’s different for everyone.


I feel like philosophically, I’ve reached this point where I’ve realized life is 100% pointless, so much so that there is no reason to continue living. I have absolutely no desire to go on for another 50 or 60 years like this. I’m convinced that as I get older, my mental health issues are only going to get worse as if they weren’t already bad enough. I believe that everyone who is motivated to live and looks forward to the future only does so because they have invented reasons to live. Supporting a family, making a name for yourself, I’ve realized the only reason humans mourn our dead is because we mourn our own lives losing one more person who lessened our suffering. All of life is suffering. I don’t want to die, because that would remove a part of my loved one’s lives; their suffering would increase. However, I find myself increasingly hopeful that the world ends. That we all die, and everyone’s suffering ends because there is no one to mourn.


Life is suffering, and death is the only cure for suffering. Why is it so bad to want to die? I feel a biological desire to live, but I recognize it’s only an evolutionary mechanism that I would want to avoid death. The rational part of me believes suicidal idealization is actually the only rational solution to life’s problems. I don’t think that I will ever get better, because it isn’t just depression anymore. I’ve often read about how depression can actually change who you are, it can change your very way of thinking and behaving; your entire outlook on life and the universe. I believe I have reached that point, in fact, I believe I have reached that point a couple of months ago. I don’t have any plans to kill myself in the immediate future, but I firmly believe that my cause of death, whenever I do die, will be suicide.

If you are an ADD’er like me, you probably need to find that place to unplug and relax. Sometimes it might be a break from work with something as simple as a walk. Other times, it might be a bigger decision like a vacation.

Cell phones, laptops, tablets, TVs, email, Facebook, Netflix…the list of ways you can spend your time plugged into technology goes on and on. They can be overwhelming, and slowly but surely they can take control of your life. Isn’t it about time we were in charge (no pun intended) of our own lives, and let go of our dependence on technology? Isn’t it time we learned how to be happy with ourselves?

If you’re wondering how to reduce tension in your life and be happy again, try living a more unplugged life. Taking time to unplug can help decrease stress, improve relationships, and give you an overall increase in freedom. There’s a big world out there just waiting to be explored, right? Here are 10 ways to take a break from technology and plug yourself back into a fuller, happier life:-

  •  Turn your phone off or leave your phone at home for a few hours:-Taking time away from your home is one of the simplest ways to live life unplugged. It’s easier said than done, but it’s 100 percent essential to giving yourself a break and teaching yourself to disconnect while you pursue other interests. Go wireless and see what else you notice about your surroundings and relationships. You’ll get more out of the other ideas on this list if you can unshackle yourself from your hand-brain. Emails, texts, notifications, and calls will all be there when you get back, we promise.
  • Utilize recreation opportunities around you:-Whatever region you’re living in, explore your local terrain by using walking trails and parks. Tune into the sounds around you, even if you are in an urban area. Check your city’s website for information on walking paths and other recreation ideas.
  • Pursue a hobby or skill you’re passionate about:-What have you always wanted to learn or do but have never dedicated the time to? It could be anything from rock climbing to photography, making pottery to learning to cook fine Italian cuisine. Then keep at it; it’s easy to lose passion for a new hobby if you don’t dedicate time to it. Schedule time a few days a week to dedicate to pursuing your passions. Make sure to turn your phone and other devices off or put them out of your reach to eliminate distractions. Turn on your favorite music and enjoy doing something you love.
  • Start reading a book in a place you enjoy:-Reading can catapult you into life experiences you’ve never even dreamed of. Make sure to pick a genre that really pulls you in and interests you, even if it’s just light reading. Again, put distractions aside so you can allow yourself to get lost in your reading. Better yet, take your book to a park, coffee shop, or another favorite spot, so that interruptions are less likely to disturb you. Then, start reading until you don’t notice yourself turning the pages anymore.
  • Creative or journal writing…with a pen!!!Writing can be therapeutic, creative, or just a great way to wind down and clear your thoughts. Your life is a story and what better way to celebrate it than to document it. Go somewhere quiet, bring your favorite drink or snack, and just let your thoughts wander out onto the paper. Notebooks can be cheap but it can also be fun to splurge and get one that really represents your personality.
  • Stargaze:-The night sky has, historically, had a profound effect on humans—calming them, inspiring them, filling them with awe. Pick a clear, quiet night, and spend some time just contemplating the vastness of the universe we live in. If you live in the city, and light pollution makes it difficult to see the stars, trek out of city limits a little way, and stargaze while communing with nature.
  • Attend a performance:-Many people have forgotten, but people still perform on stages. Actors put on play productions, dancers have recitals, and musicians have concerts. Go attend a performing art, and experience the joy of seeing someone do something impressive. Depending on the performance, you may laugh, you may cry, you may do a little of both, but you’re sure to have a good time.

When we look in the mirror, we realize how time is inexorably running out, and our lives are being consumed. we would see thousands of lives like ours, moving to and from, like ants or robots, mixing and shaping what we call a society.

Throughout time, generations of people like us have been born and have died.

It is unavoidable to question a few times in our fleeting life if what mankind has done is worthy of being called an evolution or an accomplishment.

Our race has evolved from a primitive organization, through the discovery of what mother nature has given us on this little planet, to a more organized form of living and interacting together, which we can call a society.

Our lives have also been transformed by the industrial revolution and technology.

The forms of organizing our societies — which we can call politics — have changed from absolute theocracies to the feudal system to the first forms of popular democracy. We have passed through failed experiments, such as communism, Naziism, and other absolutist regimes, and have also suffered wars which have cost millions of lives and caused widespread bloodshed until just a few generations ago.


Welcome To The World We Live In Today:-

With a blink of an eye, our world is constantly changing, for the good, but also for the worst. Kids are being raised without morals and are not being taught the importance of good manners. How are kids supposed to make morally correct decisions while they witness the horrific events that are occurring within our society and world today? Kids are now growing up believing that it is okay to not have good manners simply because they are not being taught them nor witnessing them.

 Instead of loving one another for who we all are, we are now hating on one another. Why can we not all express ourselves without being criticized for it? It has become out of the norm to complement each other. It is okay to tell someone that you like their shoes, is it not? We now must think twice before going out of our way to talk to someone else. With that said, it is even hard for us to smile at someone we do not know.

We are unable to not make harsh judgments about someone. We have begun to categorize people based on how they act, what they wear, their political party, their skin color, where they live and so many other factors. Why can we not just be  Human?

Of course, we all have a right to our own opinions but why do our opinions have to tear someone else down? They do not have to. Simple as that. We all need to reach back and remember the manners our parents taught us. If you have nothing nice to say, then do not say it.


What is happening to us? We are falling apart in so many different ways, but who would have thought that one day saying “Hi” and smiling to a stranger was too much to ask for.

What happened to take a moment to stop and smell the roses? Why can we not as a country, or better yet the world, slow down and enjoy the little things in life anymore? We are so caught up in what we have to do today or even next week, the expectations of society and the terrifying occurrences that are happening. We have been branded with the mindset that it is okay to skip out of the small events in life that mean the most. When did it become okay to not sit down as a family to have dinner? When did it become acceptable that we do not have to hold doors for one another? Or what about not being able to say “Please” and “Thank You”. When did this all become okay?

Life is too short to constantly be rude to one another. Say “Please” and “Thank you.” Be nice to others, and do not forget all of the good that still exists in the world today. Just remember a smile can go a long way.

Everything has been decided for you and you have no choices in what you do, wear or say? Some days can feel like that but have too many in a row and you just might be drifting aimlessly through life.

Then there are those people who get excited when they wake up in the morning. They have things they look forward to and they don’t know what is going to happen to them in the future. These people don’t merely exist, they’re full of life.

Living Or Existing


I think the biggest distinction between living and existing comes from how much control you have over life decisions. Where do you see control coming from? In general, someone who exists feels as if everything is outside of their control while someone living knows they determine the path their life takes.

Emotions have a big role to play in this. Someone who exists lets emotions such as fear and anger dictate what they can and can’t do. Someone who is living understands those emotions, controls them and doesn’t let them interfere with their decisions.

Someone who exists would stay in the same dead-end job for years despite being unsatisfied and unhappy. Their fears have trapped them and they have no plans of getting out. They’ve lost hope and just mindlessly go through the day in order to maintain the status quo.

But it goes much further than a job and paycheck. Someone who lets their fears control them won’t take other actions that would improve their life. They stay in relationships they don’t like, don’t do things on their bucket list and always put their dreams on hold.

People who simply exist do the same boring routine every day even though they don’t really like it. They don’t take any chances of improving their life just so they can maintain their current comfortable lifestyle. This is because they are unable to take control of their decisions.

How to Stop Existing and Start Living 🙂

So how would you even know if you’re someone who exists or lives? Steve Jobs did something that could provide some guidance. Apparently, he used to wake up each morning, look at himself in the mirror and ask himself the same question, “If I was to die today, would I do what I am about to do?” If his answer was no too many days in a row, he would make a change.

I think this is a good starting point for figuring out if you’re just settling for mediocrity. If you’re not getting excited or happy most days with what you’re going to do, you need to take action and change something. This goes for every area of your life.

Steve Jobs’ attitude is how I would describe someone who is living. He’s not content with doing a routine simply because he did it the day before. He knows that you continually have to find something that is meaningful to you and makes you happy. Otherwise, you stop getting up in the morning because you want to and you start getting up because it’s obligatory.

So start asking yourself the same question that Steve Jobs asked. If you find yourself saying no to the question too often, you know that you need to make a change. Once you know what you want to change, you’ll have to confront those fears holding you back and remind yourself that a change is necessary.

I realize this can be a scary process; I went through something similar. Many years ago I had a job I didn’t like. It wasn’t horrible, but after several years of work, I realized I had started going there only because of habit and not because I liked the work itself.

I knew I needed a change so I quit. I had searched for a job before I left, but didn’t have anything lined up right away. It was really scary at first, but I knew quitting was the right thing to do. Several years later, I’m still glad I made the decision.

Take Control of Your Life



In the end, you need to be the one making the decisions for your life. Nothing should tell you what to do, even your fears and doubts. If you haven’t already, you need to take back control and make life meaningful for yourself again.

I know it can be easy to get stuck doing something because it is comfortable and has become habitual. I’ve been in that situation before. Even Steve Jobs battled with it if you consider that he asked himself that morning question every day for 30 years. And if he could get stuck in a rut doing something he doesn’t like, anyone can.

The art of living well is to make your life an expression of who you are, what you believe, and your hopes, dreams, and desires. Of course, to create your life as a work of art is an ongoing, evolving, and creative endeavor. And so it should be.


If too many desires come to your mind, or too much restlessness and agitation then food, atmosphere, and association have been the cause.

The difference between living well and just living would be analogous to preparing a meal.

When you’re hungry you can just throw something together from whatever is handy without considering the nutritional value, taste, or visual appeal of the dish. You can shove something down that fills your tummy and satisfies your immediate appetite.

Or, you can prepare a pleasing, nutritious, tasty meal that not only satisfies your visual and practical needs but also makes it a joy to experience. Of course, the second meal requires more thought, planning, imagination, and work, in general, but the rewards are exceedingly greater on every level.

So it is with life. You could live it indiscriminately not paying attention to anything in particular, or you can make it a delicious, nutritious treat.

How to make your life a work of art:


Make each moment count and live it to the fullest. When you get up in the morning decide to welcome all the challenges and delights each day brings. Be aware that everything you experience contributes to your knowledge, enjoyment, and understanding of life. Every activity can have meaning and purpose and by acknowledging and recognizing it, you enrich your participation in it.

If even the slightest desire to be free has arisen in you, you should pat yourself on the back, you are very lucky. Billions of lives on this planet don’t have this blessing. They do not even live. They exist, die and dissolve. They are not bored. Even if they are bored, they’re bored about something very small. A little change can make them very comfortable again. So, blessed are those who get bored!


  • Express yourself and create the life you want. You are unique. Express your individuality and share your observations and insights with others. Make your surroundings a comfortable reflection of that individuality and uniqueness. For instance, if you’re a collector, a sports fan, or have a particular hobby, decorate your home with artifacts and mementos that express that part of your personality. It makes for good conversation and reveals something about you to others.

Your needs are fully taken care of. You are being loved very dearly. This reminder softens you; brings about miracles around you, and changes your life. This reminder brings plentitude: there is nothing lacking for you. And that is the complete ‘letting go’.


  • Establish an open, accepting and appreciative mindset. Prepare yourself for whatever comes your way. When you do, the possibility of attracting adverse circumstances lessens because of your willingness to confront and face what is. When you maintain an open, accepting attitude life actually goes more smoothly and without incident. It’s as if you’re daring life to throw you a curve, but because you aren’t afraid, it becomes unnecessary and therefore loses its impact.

When you can see the entire event as fleeting impositions or happenings, and you remain untouched by them, then you are happy. Joy springs out of you, like a fountain. That is your very nature. Clinging on to the past, to your likes and dislikes, you have bolted the fountain of joy.


  • Be who you are and go after what you want. Be comfortable with yourself and don’t be afraid to go after what you want. So many opportunities are missed out on fear of failure (and success too) and an unwillingness to take risks or put yourself on the line. Life is too short to not give your best shot at something. Strive to reach your potential. The worst that can happen is you learn a valuable lesson.
